Michele Di Donato

Pugliese by birth, Sicilian by adoption, he was born in '68 into a family where we have always been used to historicizing the various moments of life, parties, meetings with images. His father photographed everything with his Voigtlander VITO C and filmed in Super 8 with a Ricoh camera. At the age of 9 he received his first camera as a gift: a Diana F. Since then he has never stopped taking pictures and looking for new images.

He loves reportage and conceptual photography, he expresses himself in black and white, a formula more suited to his way of understanding the image; he does not disdain color, even if he always makes very discreet use of it. Di Donato is self-taught, and this has allowed me to deepen, study and learn without the worry of "having" to learn at all costs. Michele photographs out of necessity, and his visceral way of writing with images has allowed him to receive national and international appreciation. In fact, he received honors and honorable mentions by participating in numerous awards including the Moscow International Foto Award 2015 and 2016 in RUSSIA, the 16th edition of the China International Photographic Art Exhibition, the International Salon of Fine Art Photography 2016 in INDIA, the 6th China International Digital Photography Art Exhibition 2017 in CHINA and the SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2017 in which he achieved the honor of "Commended as Top 50 in the world" in the Open Architecture category. Di Donato has published his photographs in various national and international magazines (including Reflex, Foto CULT, Click Magazine, Die Angst and L'Oeil de la Photographie) and has exhibited in numerous group and personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad. . He currently lives in Castelbuono (PA).

Pugliese di nascita, siciliano di adozione, nasce nel '68 in una famiglia dove si è sempre stati abituati a storicizzare i vari momenti di vita, le feste, le riunioni con delle immagini. Suo padre fotografava qualsiasi cosa con la sua Voigtlander VITO C e filmava in Super 8 con una cinepresa Ricoh.  A 9 anni riceve in regalo la sua prima macchina fotografica: una Diana F. Da allora non ha più smesso di fotografare e di cercare immagini nuove.

Ama la fotografia di reportage e quella concettuale, si esprime in bianconero, formula più confacente al suo modo d’intendere l’immagine; non disdegna il colore, anche se ne fa un uso sempre molto discreto.

Di Donato è un autodidatta, e questo mi gli ha permesso di approfondire, studiare ed apprendere senza l'assillo di "dover" imparare a tutti i costi.  Michele fotografa per necessità, e questo suo modo viscerale di scrivere con le immagini gli ha consentito di ricevere apprezzamenti a livello nazionale e internazionale.

Ha infatti conseguito onoreficenze e menzioni d’onore partecipando a numerosi awards fra i quali il Moscow International Foto Award 2015 e 2016 in RUSSIA, la 16° edizione del China International Photographic Art Exhibition, l’International Salon of Fine Art Photography 2016 in INDIA, il 6th China International Digital Photography Art Exhibition 2017 in CINA  e il SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2017 nel quale ha conseguito l'onoreficenza di "Commended as Top 50 in the world" nella categoria Open Architecture.

Di Donato ha pubblicato le sue fotografie su diverse testate nazionali ed internazionali (tra le quali Reflex, Foto CULT, Click Magazine, Die Angst e L'Oeil de la Photographie) ed ha esposto in numerose mostre collettive e personali in Italia e all’estero. Attualmente vive a Castelbuono (PA).
