Freedom. We only realized how free we were when we could no longer be due to the Pandemic, which upset our habits and led us to reflect deeply on the type of society we have built.
What you will find in the next pages is a celebration: the celebration of newfound freedom, of life that returns to celebrate itself. Gabi Ben Avraham roams the streets of America letting us be overwhelmed by the joy that explodes on every street corner, in bars and parks. What unfolds before the eyes of readers is a colorful, rocky, joyful and triumphant journey: the journey into a rediscovered "normality".
To triumph are the bodies, the bare skin, the physical contact, the game and the love. The freedom to be what you want and what you want. After all, the Pandemic should have brought everyone back to the understanding of what really matters in everyone's life: being free, in any and all circumstances, to be who one is regardless of age, sexual orientation, sexual identity and ethnicity.
Be yourself... Gabi Ben AvraHam's magnificent Queer celebration of the Cartesian cogito, as he himself testifies: "After two years of stagnation and some lockdowns due to covid-19, I went to the United States for a family visit. I felt like a bird that finally flew out of its cage! The series portrays that wonderful feeling of freedom and expresses in a surreal way the emotions of people who have gone through covid-19, each in their own way."

La libertà. Ci siamo accorti di quanto eravamo liberi solo quando non abbiamo potuto più esserlo a causa della Pandemia , che ha stravolto le nostre abitudini e ci ha indotto a riflettere in profondità sul tipo di società che abbiamo costruito.
Quello che troverete nella prossime pagine è una celebrazione: la celebrazione della libertà ritrovata, della vita che torna a festeggiare se stessa. Gabi Ben Avraham vaga per le strade americane lasciandoci travolgere dalla gioia che esplode ad ogni angolo di strada , nei bar e nei parchi. Quello che squaderna davanti agli occhi dei lettori è un viaggio colorato, roccambolesco , gioioso e trionfante: il viaggio in una ritrovata “normalità”.
A trionfare sono i corpi , la pelle nuda , il contatto fisico , il gioco e l’amore. La libertà di essere come si vuole e ciò che si vuole. La Pandemia del resto dovrebbe aver ricondotto tutti alla comprensione di ciò che veramente conta nella vita di ciascuno: essere liberi , in ogni e qualsiasi circostanza , di essere ciò che si è a prescindere dall’età, dall’orientamento sessuale, dall’identità sessuale e dall’etnia.
Essere se stessi… una magnifica celebrazione Queer del cogito cartesiano quella di Gabi Ben AvraHam, come lui stesso testimonia : “Dopo due anni di stagnazione e alcuni blocchi dovuti al covid-19, sono andato negli Stati Uniti per una visita di famiglia. Mi sono sentito come un uccello che finalmente è volato fuori dalla sua gabbia! La serie ritrae quella meravigliosa sensazione di libertà ed esprime in maniera surreale le emozioni delle persone che hanno attraversato il covid -19, ognuna a modo suo”.
Bio Gabi Ben Avraham
My name is Gabi (Gavriel) Ben-Avraham. I am 59 years old, married with three children. I work in a software company and I live in a quiet neighborhood of Tel Aviv, the city where I grew up, I've never left and it's part of me and my hobby: photography. I like cinema and music and during the 80's I photographed using film cameras. Then I didn't touch a camera for 20 years until I received a digital camera as a gift for my birthday from my wife a few years ago. The rest is history....
Street Photography is my favorite way to look at the world. My camera has become an integral part of me and I can't imagine myself without it. Wherever I go, I take it with me, thinking 'maybe today will be my lucky day and I'll take the picture of my life'. Through the lens of the camera I am constantly looking around, looking for that "decisive" moment that will never come back, unless I capture it. When I press the button, I try to make sense, bring order back to the chaotic pattern of things in the composition. The components "talk" to each other in a special dialogue, in terms of colour, shape or light. Capturing the elusive and special moment after which things will never be the same and making it eternal – that's my goal.
