They are suspended, immersed in a vivid light that makes the colors pure and the shadows sharp and shiny. The protagonists of Bolat's shots certainly dream of a life and a moment of happiness but at the same time they make us dream; they are bearers of the magic of dreams.
"I live in Ankara, the capital of Turkey," says the artist, "and I often find reasons to take photos in the city where I live, in the village where I was born and raised. I look at the pictures, normal for the people of the village, but actually extraordinary, and I think they are like surprises prepared just for me. In a world where everything is constantly changing, the satisfaction of capturing the moment when a fragile balance is formed by including my intuition in what I see got me hooked on street photography."
What is striking in these images by Bolat is the extreme familiarity of the scenes, yet made dystopian, distorted in its primary sense by a surreal or unreal detail, such as the mask of Spider-Man in front of the windows of a butcher's shop or an incongruous straw hat of a bather immersed in a dense foam. The bizarreness of the detail tells us of a profoundly contemporary vision of photography that is interwoven with several planes of meaning and focused on objects, used to give rhythm to the composition and create a sort of frame to the story that the shot tells; a story that always tells of a surprising everyday life.

Sono sospesi, immersi in una luce vivida che rende i colori puri e le ombre nette lucenti, i protagonisti degli scatti di Bolat sognano sicuramente una vita e un momento di felicità ma al contempo ci fanno sognare, sono portatori della magia del sogno.
“Vivo ad Ankara, la capitale della Turchia – racconta l’artista - e trovo spesso motivi per scattare foto nella città in cui vivo, nel villaggio in cui sono nata e cresciuta. Guardo le immagini, normali per la gente del villaggio, ma in realtà straordinarie, e penso che siano come sorprese preparate solo per me. In un mondo in cui tutto cambia costantemente, la soddisfazione di catturare il momento in cui si forma un fragile equilibrio includendo il mio intuito in ciò che vedo mi ha fatto appassionare alla fotografia di strada”.
Cio che colpisce in questi scatti di Bolat è l’estrema famigliarità delle scene che però viene resa distopica, stravolta nel suo senso primario da un particolare surreale o irreale, come la maschera dell’Uomo ragno di fronte alle vetrine di una macelleria o un incongruo cappello di paglia di una bagnante immersa in una schiuma densa. La bizzaria del particolare ci racconta di una visione profondamente contemporanea della fotografia che è intessuta di più piani di senso e focalizzata sugli oggetti, usati per dare ritmo alla composizione e creare una sorta di cornice alla storia che lo scatto racconta… una storia che racconta sempre e comunque di una sorprendente quotidianità!
