The KappaFuturFestival attracts thousands of young people from all over the world every year to Turin, whose underground music scene has always been among the liveliest and most interesting in our country, and a photographer who is something different from a reporter but does not like to call himself an artist.
With Settimio Benedusi, the description of digital storyteller may be the one that best suits this specific work.
"These shots," says Benedusi, "were born from two opposite but complementary stimuli. On the one hand, the technical impossibility today, given the type of tools we have at our disposal, to make a mistake. On the other hand, the participation in the Festival of a colleague, Massimo Vitali, who uses the optical bench for his works with refined and extreme precision. And so, since we were there together to make a photographic document about that event, I thought that the most interesting thing was to move as far as possible from what he would have done, making photographs opposite to his and therefore theoretically wrong." However in the photographs that make up this work, there is no mistake except to the aesthetic expectations that those who look at it as a reportage might have.
These shots by Benedusi, on the other hand, are impeccably iconic scenes of a contemporary "Cantata", the stages of a spontaneous, sparkling, at times acid and extremely engaging narrative like the music that is the protagonist.

Un Festival, il KappaFuturFestival che attira ogni anno migliaia di giovani da tutto il mondo. Una città Torino la cui scena underground musicale è sempre stata tra le più vivaci e interessanti del nostro paese. E un fotografo che è qualcosa di diverso da un reporter ma non ama definirsi un artista, Settimio Benedusi, a cui forse la definizione di cantastorie digitale è quella che più si attaglia in questo specifico lavoro.
“Questi scatti – racconta Benedusi - sono nati da due stimoli opposti ma complementari. Da un lato l’impossibilità tecnica oggi, visto la tipologia di strumenti che abbiamo a disposizione di sbagliare uno scatto, di commettere un errore. Dall’altra la partecipazione al Festival di un collega, Massimo Vitali , che utilizza con raffinata ed estrema precisione il banco ottico per i suoi lavori. E cosi visto che eravamo li insieme per realizzare un documento fotografico su quell’evento ho pensato che la cosa più interessante fosse allontanarmi il più possibile da quello che lui avrebbe fatto, realizzando delle fotografie opposte alle sue e quindi teoricamente sbagliate”. Ma sostanzialmente negli scatti dell’autore che compongono questo lavoro, non c’è alcuno sbaglio se non rispetto alle aspettative estetiche che chi lo guarda come un reportage potrebbe avere. Questi scatti di Benedusi invece sono delle scene impeccabilmente iconiche di una “Cantata “ contemporanea, le tappe di una narrazione spontanea, frizzata, a tratti acida ed estremamente coinvolgente come la musica che ne è protagonista.
