Gianluca De Dominici, CITIES 15 intro: "You always go back to where you have been good", says an old popular saying; and we at CITIES, who have uninterruptedly drawn glimpses of visual evolution of the present from the past, can only agree. In these times of great social and artistic upheaval, on the other hand, the call to the "old school" is stronger than ever. Like one of those nursery rhymes that became the origin of our dreams as children, the principle of melancholy has returned to trace the boundaries of our existence, leading us, even in the photographic context, to rediscover forms of narration and sharing that have long since taken root in the very foundation of our history: the human one.”
Richard Bram, afterword: “CITIES refuses to be pigeon-holed into what is classic or standard street photography. Many of the stories in this issue are be more easily classified as documentary rather than street. A perfect example of this would be Robbie McIntosh’s work look at the world of Burlesque, ‘Plumes d’Autriche’. Permission is asked and granted; it is inside a performance space, not outside in the street. Rules? There are no rules. Ania Klosek’s photographs made along what was the pre-1939 borders of Poland are another example of going outside standard street tropes and into rural areas and almost lost villages once traversed - for a while at least - by a line.”
This issue 15, in short, "smells like the street", because we at CITIES (and you readers, I'm sure!), we just can't do without the street whichever way you understand it.

Gianluca De Dominici, CITIES 15 intro: "Si torna sempre dove si è stati bravi", recita un vecchio detto popolare; e noi di CITIES, che dal passato abbiamo ininterrottamente disegnato scorci di evoluzione visiva del presente, non possiamo che essere d'accordo. In questi tempi di grandi sconvolgimenti sociali e artistici, d'altra parte, il richiamo alla "vecchia scuola" è più forte che mai. Come una di quelle filastrocche che sono diventate l'origine dei nostri sogni di bambini, il principio della malinconia è tornato a tracciare i confini della nostra esistenza, portandoci, anche nel contesto fotografico, a riscoprire forme di narrazione e condivisione che da tempo si sono radicate nel fondamento stesso della nostra storia: quella umana.”
Richard Bram, postfazione: “CITIES rifiuta di essere incasellato in quella che è la fotografia di strada classica o standard. Molte delle storie di questo numero sono più facilmente classificabili come documentari piuttosto che di strada. Un esempio perfetto di questo potrebbe essere lo sguardo al mondo del Burlesque di Robbie McIntosh, 'Plumes d'Autriche'. Il permesso viene chiesto e concesso; È all'interno di uno spazio performativo, non all'esterno in strada. Norme? Non ci sono regole.
