"At City South-east" by Andrea Finocchi

"Torpignattara is a space crossed by memory in which you can breathe the excruciating languor of inescapable passings"

Fernando Acitelli

Far from the monumental iconographies of the capital, Andrea Finocchi's photographic work At sud est Urbe delves into the complexities of Tor Pignattara, described by the author as "a historic district located in the south-east quadrant of Rome, an area where the memory of antiquity is intertwined with the dynamism of the modern metropolis". Finocchi's lens does not look for the postcard, but focuses on Via Casilina, a vital artery traveled since 1916 by the historic yellow train that "marks the slow rhythm of local life", the visual and conceptual axis of the entire series.

The project is configured as a visual analysis of what is now to all intents and purposes "the most interesting social laboratory in the capital". Through a precise alternation of urban landscapes and anthropological details, the photographer documents an "extraordinary mixture of peoples", recording how architecture itself reflects this evolution: mosques, Hindu temples and churches coexist side by side among social housing and historic villas.

Finocchi thus restores the image of a hybrid identity, transforming Tor Pignattara into a "bridge to a model of a multicultural European city". His images do not tell of fragmentation, but of a lively negotiation of spaces and roots, offering a valuable glimpse into the future of the contemporary metropolis.
