Cities16 - Daniela La Rosa - Waiting Line

"Waiting line" by Daniela La Rosa

Everything arrives in time for those who know how to wait.
Leo Tolstoy

There is a metropolitan dimension invisible to official cartography, made up of suspended transits and liminal micro-stories. It is the "city of stops, waits and silent presences" explored by Daniela La Rosa in her photographic work Linea di attesa. Through a rigorous black and white, the author strips the urban space of color to return an essential vision in which the monochromatic medium "reduces the superfluous and retains what remains: still bodies, repeated gestures, missed encounters".

The research focuses on mobility infrastructures, where ordinary elements such as shelters and windows stop being barriers and become thresholds. Glass is the silent protagonist of this narrative: transparent surfaces that overlap worlds and confuse interior and exterior, allowing the city to physically imprint itself on bodies. In this scenario, La Rosa undermines the linear conception of urban time: "waiting is not an interruption, but a way of living".

The rigid geometries of rails and wagons define a perimeter in which the human figure is inserted as a fragile but necessary element. Renouncing the rhetoric of frenetic movement, the project "does not tell of a destination but of the value of the 'while'", crystallizing the poetics of an instant destined to dissolve.
