RITES & MYTHS - a Cities Books production
An open call promoted by ISP for a special book of CITIES dedicated to ritual practices, religious-metaphysical worldviews and sacramental practices,, seen by street photography or documentary languages! An ideal sequel to the book Street Journey in Italy
Rites and myths are central components of religious and cultural practice, often intertwined, where myths represent sacred narratives and rites are their staging or implementation. They may include traditional manifestations or ancient and modern myths, icons from the past or present.
The Free open CALL is active until may 31, 2026!
This autumn, after the holidays, will be released the editorial result, from the selection done by Cities editorial Team. The volume will include some series and single images by some of the authors already published on CITIES (https://www.italianstreetphotography.com/cities), but there is room for everyone! It will be a great volume, with sections dedicated to different cultures and tributes to specific focuses.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CALL: any adult citizen (over 18 years old) of any nationality.
WHAT YOU CAN SEND TO THE CALL BY MAY 31, 2026: series or single images of Rites and/or Myths produced by an analogic or digital camera. Images produced by AI software (syntographies) will NOT be accepted. Images can be post-produced, remembering that any current post-production software, including the latest versions of Photoshop, has an AI core...
If you have a series or single images of Rites and/or Myths done with street or documentary style you can submit them to us free of charge, by sending us an email with wetransfer before 31 may 2026 to info@italianstreetphotography.com
- Complete story or series with a specific common thread of up to 15 images, jpg files with a long side of up to 2000 pixels, text in word or pdf with synopsis, maximum 2000 characters.
- Single images, maximum 5, jpg files with a long side of maximum 2000 pixels.
The call will serve to identify the authors who will participate in the volume with short stories/series or single images.
Each Author will have a personal section in the book, depending by what we select of his work. At least a page with 1 or 2 photo and his info, but the space could go up to 6 pages for a strong story.
The volume will be a book-sized (16.9x24 cm) of about 200 pages and it will be presented from September 2026 on several occasions in festivals and in well-known institutional and private spaces.
To help us for the book production, whether they are series and/or single images, each selected author, will have to pay a fee of euro 30 for each photo published in the book. Each author will receive a copy of the book (plus shipping expenses from Italy)
